Our projects are aligned with the research and evidence-based practices to inspire and sustain transformation in the classroom and beyond.

Math Literacy Project.

The Math Literacy Project is designed to increase teachers’ ability and confidence to develop and exchange culturally relevant, conceptually rich, innovative, student-centered mathematics lessons and resources.

  • Students of Color continue to experience increased cultural, social, emotional, and academic dissonance and misalignment in their math learning experiences. Practically on all summative assessments, including the National Report Card, ACT, and SAT, Black and Brown students score among the lowest among all subgroups. Further, due to inadequate K-12 math preparation, they are often limited in their access to (or success in) college-level math courses.

  • (1) Increase math teachers' capacity to engage (and empower) their students by participating in a yearlong seminar designed to disrupt practices that have denied access to quality math instruction for students of color.

    (2) Empower students of color to develop a love (and passion) for math through a culturally-relevant, conceptually-rich, and student-driven summer lab experience.

  • Teachers and administrators participate in twelve (12) sessions, featuring:

    ● Mathematical Growth Mindset: Research and Discussion on How to Develop Student Resilience and Persistence

    ● High Cognitive Demand Tasks: Math Tasks Empowering Students to Understand Complex Problems

    ● District-wide or School SiteMath Repository: Collection of Standard-Based Lesson Plans and Research Articles

    ● Culminating Project: Collaborative opportunity to Increase Parent/Caregiver Involvement, e.g., District-Wide Math Night

Equity Literacy Project.

The Equity Literacy Project is designed to empower teachers to develop the disposition, acumen, resources, and networks for a sustainable, inclusive, equitable, and affirming school community.

  • It will feature scholarly literature on teaching and equity, collaborative activities, and a capstone case study to discover what can be done to support students and their parents/guardians, especially those who are disengaged from the school community.

  • (1) Acquire the skills to improve student engagement and learning through a student-centered, culturally responsive, and conceptually rich learning environment;

    (2) Develop a plan (schema) to increase parent/guardian engagement in school-related activities, projects, and volunteer opportunities; and

    (3) Contribute to the overall improvement of school culture, emphasizing equity, access, and inclusivity.

Student Empowerment Project.

Unfortunately, too many of our Black and Brown middle and high school students are not encouraged to achieve their greatest potential. The Student Empowerment Project is a support system designed to inspire low-performing middle and high school black and brown males to thrive in academic spaces. This project emphasizes building these students' capacity to thrive and increase their self-esteem and sense of self-efficacy.

For educators.

For students.

For all.
